I would say the free kick from the centre back is possibly as good as any of Payet's this season.

Was there for Hurst's big 6 everything he touched that day seemed to end up in the back of thenet. As a wide eyed nipper Hurst was Superman for the week.

I don't remember gravity being that weak.

Puzzled that it wasn't stronger, though...

Haha, yes I knew who the 'centre back' was!
Way before my time but some great goals on the clip, good to see a piece of West Ham history.

I was there - started well and just got better and better.

If anyone can locate a clip of the home game against Man City from a few weeks after the Sunderland game, that'd be a treat. Hurst and Peters at their genius best.

Am I the only one on here who has been at both our 8-0 wins (this plus Rotherham March '58)?

Ted maybe?

Sir Geoff had a set of thighs on him didn't he!
Just before my time these great players and times.
But forever respectful of them

I had the original 8mm cine film of this match, but lost it years ago and in any case who has a projector these days? Thanks for the link.

I was there with the old man. 8 years old at the time and left the ground thinking Sir Geoff was king of the world.

I missed the best bit of Geoff's career (partly down to me not being interested in football until I was 9, partly down to my Dad not wanting to take me until I wore him down - if I had started sooner, I would have succeeded sooner), but I caught the tail end of his West Ham career.

Still a marvelous player, even then.

The 'centre back' as you put it was Bobby Moore.

This was one of my fist games, and I still have loads of memories of it.

It was a great day.

I was in the North Bank behind the goal and it was my 16th birthday,

Brilliant present from Sir Geoffrey.

Apparently the papers the next day were all about Sir G admitting to the hand ball rather than the 5 LEGIT goals!!

Me too, up on the north bank. Fantastic effort from Sir Geoff, with a couple of screamers thrown in. Just surprised he admitted the one he punched in, seeing as no one in the ground spotted it.
He said this week that it was probably his finest hour (and a half).
I don't think that those who didn't see him in the flesh realise what a brilliant player he was. He was truly world class.

Proud to say I was there, Jim Montgomery, their goalie was supposedly one of the best in the country
